Hey, I'm online now. I will check your other post out. I'm using major arcana as a 30 day period along with the court cards since the marjor arcana is different from the minior suit. For example, if you pull out a major and two wand cards. I put it as a 30 day period and whatever the wands are. I hope I'm doing it right. Let me know what you think.

Douglas, you use astrology for the court cards(pages, kings, knights and queens)? How come it's weeks in Cartomancy and not that way in Tarot? Are you adding the numbers together and coming up with a single digit for court cards? Let's say I got the Queen of cups that would be 12, but if i add 1 and 2 together, I'd have 3 and the answer would be April 21 – May 20? I'm little confused. I'm trying to understand it here. Also, if you don't mind me asking another question, i see by example for Aces in tarot, that it goes by 1 week, 1 day, 1month and 1 year? Thank you.

Hi Erica,

Tricky question!

I tend to read Court cards slightly differently.

I see the Court cards as representing the event itself moving towards the client as opposed to a static event that is to occur in the distant future. For this reason I apply a different approach to them ... but if I was to time the event using a Court card, I would predict it using astrology:

Under most systems that use Astrology with Tarot cards, the Court cards are usually seen to govern a 30 day period. The King of Pentacles is associated with roughly the time of Taurus (the 30 days actually start on the tale end of Aries). In fact, under one system, the Hierophant, King of Pentacles and the 5, 6, and 7 of Disks are all governed under the influence of Taurus.

I would therefore, if I was to use the Kind of Pentacles to help me time the reading, predict the event as occurring sometime around April 11th - May 20th.

There are different systems in place with Tarot for timing future events. Most use Astrology and most differ as to what cards represents what. However, if you're interesting in pursuing this aspect of Tarot further, I would suggest you check out some of those systems and find one that you're comfortable working with.

I hope that helps answer your question,

all the best,

Doug

I came across this in the search on yahoo. I was curious to know how to read the court cards in timing. As i see from your example, it's nothing like timing in Cartomancy.

So if i pulled out for example, the kingofpent, it would indicate the 14th year?
I appreciate any feedback on this and thank you.

Hi Scot,

Thank you for such a great comment :)

A lot of the information you have presented is very useful and I'm sure people who want a different slant on timing will find this exceptionally useful.

Good job :D

I totally agree with you Douglas, the matter of setting timing for the cards boils down to you setting a system and using it. I also find that it's a good idea to test your system often to see if you are accurate since the subconscious has a way of doing things it's own way, you have to figure out what is working. But I think it is more acceptable of you finding a system and physically writing that system down, it makes it more real for the subconscious and causes it to answer.

I have a couple of methods here that can be very accurate, but like I said, you have to make a decision on what you want to use and stick to it. Here's one that I find works really well for a lot of readers:

this one goes along the lines of what you use. Time intervals are predicated on the speed of the suits.

Coins, as Earth, is slowest-moving, so represents years.
Cups, as Water, is second slowest, a little faster, so it is months.
Swords as Air, is faster still, so it is weeks.
Wands, as Fire, is fastest and most energetic of all, so it is days.

Aces through to tens are that time-interval multiplied by the face-value (ie, Ace Coins would be one year, Four Wands would be four days).

Pages are eleven of the time-unit, Knights twelve, Queens thirteen, and Kings fourteen. This already provides the deck with a bit of overlap.

You can work the major arcana in many different ways, you simply have to make a decision on how you want to use them. I know readers who will simply pull another card if the majors come up, or until one of the pips or court cards come up for the timing. The Major being another added meaning for the readings. I know some readers that will not use the Majors at all and simply tell the questioner that the time can not be told right now, and use the Major as a meaning of something the quarent needs to work with themselves, or an event that must happen before the full reading will come to fruition. I am not to fond of using this, I prefer to set actual timings to the cards and use the astrological meanings and which signs they are associated with to set the timing to the major. Here is a list of how I set the timing for the Major Arcana with Astrological associations that I use:

FOOL: (Uranus) Date Jan 20 - Feb 18
MAGICIAN: (Mercury) May 21 - June 20
HIGH PRIESTESS: (Moon) June 21 - July 21
EMPRESS: (Venus) April 21 - May 20
EMPEROR: (Aries) March 21 - April 20
HIEROPHANT (Taurus) April 21 - May 20
LOVERS (Gemini) May 212 - June 20
CHARIOT (Cancer) June 21 - July 21
STRENGTH: (Leo) July 22 - August 21
HERMIT: (Virgo) August 22 - Sept. 21
WHEEL OF FORTUNE: (Jupiter) Nov. 22 - Dec. 20
JUSTICE: (Libra) Sept. 22 - Oct. 22
HANGED MAN: (Neptune) Feb. 19 - March 20
DEATH: (Scorpio) Oct. 23 - Nov. 21
TEMPERANCE: (Sagittarius) Nov. 22 - Dec. 20
DEVIL: (Capricorn) Dec. 21 - Jan 19
TOWER: (Mars) March 21 - April 20
STAR: (Aquarius) Jan. 20 - Feb. 18
MOON: (Pisces) Feb. 19 - March 20
SUN: (Sun) July 20 - Aug. 21
JUDGEMENT: (Pluto) Oct. 23 - Nov. 21
WORLD: (Saturn) Dec. 21 - Jan 19

You can also go completely through the Minor Arcana in this manner (which I have, lol) but this is a working system for anyone who wants to use it.

I suggest that you use a separate deck for this method and use it for timing only, keep with you while you are reading and go to it when the timing questions come up.

Hi Douglas,

What happens when you are trying to interpret a time line and you get a card that has two astrology signs? It's weird but I've found that the Empress card has two signs - Taurus for home and Libra for beauty. This isn't the only card that has two signs in this reading. The Emperor does, too, Scorpio for power and Aries for drive.

I was reading your tutorial on "Why Reading Tarot Cards Like a Book Doesn't Work" and thought I would try asking new questions based on the cards I drew...Emperor/Empress/Fool. I asked the Question Is so-and-so having so-an-so's baby? Then I wanted to know when it was due. I already know that if she is pregnant it would be due in Oct./Nov., so, I was thinking I need to use the 2nd sign of the Empress and Emperor cards for the date. But here is something that keeps tugging at me...the Emperor and the Fool are both Aries. Should I toss out those signs? What if she has a miscarriage? A baby born in Mar./Apr. cannot survive. So, in this instance do I deal out more cards to confirm my dates?

Thanks,

Hi Sheri,

That's a great way to practice. If you can do readings on areas of your life that you know will conclude in a short time frame, then that allows you to monitor your progress in a much a faster way.

It's great that you're starting to build up your own associations for the Tarot cards. This is a great sign that you are truly connecting with the cards :D

Hi Douglas,

I have been experimenting alot with timelines and I'm finding that the swords definitely mean hours - for me anyway and for those I read for. when a card is reversed I've also found the time delayed for the swords to days. Waiting over 6 months to years for a prediction isn't easy to track so I'm sticking to the short term only.

Thanks =)
