The Devil

The Tarot card called the Devil

Today I’m going to look at the Devil. I’ll record exactly what transpired during the exercise, even if it doesn’t make immediate sense.

Part One: Free Association.

  • Happiness
  • Laughter
  • People owe me and I don’t care who I hurt
  • A lack of creation; a writer’s block
  • This card stops things from getting done
  • Creationism versus Evolution. Religious zeal
  • Animal instincts
  • Acting out of desire and nothing else
  • The animal controlling us
  • Strength. Magick and Occultists
  • Can’t live in the moment. Inability to get what one truly wants
  • Not ’seeing’ reality
  • All knowing potential to see what’s really going on
  • Sadistic enjoyment over controlling others. Selfish ambition
  • Holy. Awareness or the lack of it
  • Spider webs
  • Before anything happens
  • Nothing happens yet

Part Two: Communicating With The Card.

Douglas seek me out but don’t depend upon me. Creation stops were you begin. Creation starts were I begin. Trust me, but don’t depend upon me. I laugh and mock you, yet I will show you. Laugh! Look now, and see what I see!

Part Three: Sensory Perceptions

Smell is fresh, fragrant.

Conclusion:

This experience leaves me feeling that the Devil is both friend and foe. The Devil is a sense of humour. Nothing seemed to be happening. I got the strong sense of ambition being controlled or trapped. Nothing advancing, yet the desire for that advancement.

The potential for something to be created, yet it remains potential. Also, laughter. Being mocked – if only I looked then I would be free to create.

Try this technique out for yourself. Although most of it may not make initial sense to you, in time (remember and keep a Tarot Journal) these experiences will go a long way to build up your very own and unique impressions for each card.

This post is part of the Free Association Exercise.
