Hi AJ,

I think you're right to associate the Element Air with problems. However, I tried to show that the Element Air, when you add in the other associations, can add much more subtlety to your readings. I'm glad you liked the post :D .

Hi. Thanks for giving this side of the element Air. I've always connected air with problems since that's what the suits implied. But this post gave a new different meaning to the Air.

Hi Ginger,

This is a great comment :D

Fire…could be spiritual…it is the fire of desire, a passion for life, a gift from the gods, a spark of life, and as an element both something that is “started” and has the potential to protect….but also the potential to destroy…

I couldn't agree more :)

Earth…could be spiritual….Christians believe ashes to ashes…..dust to dust….we were created from the earth…. associated with the chakra: Muladhara (Root): Root? the beginning of that which grows…bringing in nourishment….

For a long time I was preoccupied with the mystery of the 'body'. I've since concluded that the body - Element Earth - is possibly the most mysterious of all the Elements. There are different systems of thought which explore this mystery, but the fact that it's such a mystery leads me to wonder - could this be the most Spiritual of all the Elements?

Water…tears…the physical symptom of emotion…emotion which is the language of the soul…water…some say we came from the ocean…evolution…therefore water is the source of all life….thats pretty spiritual….Christians…are baptized with water….there is Holy water….used to perform exorcisms….which frees the soul from torment by demons…

I really like how you've connect this Element to tears. The study of the symbolic meanings of 'tears' is fascinating.

I agree - Water is the source of life and it also performs a spiritual function in some religious or ritual ceremonies.

Okay…sorry just wanted to argue the point a little…for fun!

I think what you've written is great ;)

Hi Theresa,

Thanks for sharing all that great stuff on Yoga, particularly Pranayama.

...given a certain number of breaths when we are born – and by practicing breath work, we lengthen our lives.

I really like the point you've made here. It reminds me a lot of my friend - who knows nothing about breath work, yet he also maintains that we have a set amount of breaths in us when we are born, which determines the length of our lives. It's also my experience that the breath and breath work is a vital component to most other Spiritual techniques.

The idea that we can only survive minutes without breathing says a lot, I think, about the Element Air, and perhaps the suit of Swords.

I'm glad you liked the post :D

I love your take on the element of air. I find the spiritual element especially intriguing:

"The Element Air is linked symbolically with Wind and Breath; it can be thought of as the breath of universal life."

It's interesting that the first thing we do when we come out of the womb is breathe - and it is the last thing we do before we die. Breath can bring life or end it. We cannot live without it. It is the connection between life and death.

As a yogi, we are taught various pranayamas (breath practices). Pranayama is composed of two sanskrit words: Prana meaning "breath" and ayama meaning "restraint". Yogic lore believes that we are given a certain number of breaths when we are born - and by practicing breath work, we lengthen our lives. I think about breath a lot because I have breathing issues - I know how precious air can be.

It's all very interesting to me. Thanks for your post!
